Proventia Desktop Endpoint Security is a
powerful protection system
for office PCs and laptops, with a multi-layered approach to
blocking of viruses and spyware.
|
|
|
|
|
The only effective way to keep users' desktop machines clear of worm
attacks like Nimda, Code Red, SQL Slammer and MSBlast is to make sure
that each system has its own mechanisms for defending itself.
In fact, each user's machine needs its own firewall plus intrusion
detection system, particularly if it is a laptop that moves between
the office and the home network. In other words, it needs desktop
protection.

Proventia Desktop combines a connection-based firewall with an
intrusion protection system that analyses all network traffic.
So,
as well as rejecting known attacks, it will filter out suspicious
traffic that may well be first probings of a new and hitherto
undocumented exploit or worm.

|
|
In addition, Proventia Desktop contains a Virus Prevention System
(VPS) that detects and blocks spyware and almost all new and unknown
viruses and worms. This is based on behavioural analysis of live
executables that picks up malicious content on the fly.
Coupled with this, Proventia Desktop employs Buffer Overflow Exploit
Prevention as a protection against worms and viruses that try to
exploit previously unknown buffer overflow vulnerabilities.
Finally, Application Control can be used to impose corporate usage
policy on users' desktops.

Central management and update are
provided by SiteProtector, reducing the load on support staff and -
perhaps more importantly - making desktop protection all but
invisible to the normal office user.
|
|
|
All this may sound expensive, but Desktop Protector is in the same
price band as virus detectors. The product starts at around
£1,650 for 25 desktops.
