IBM Internet Security Systems' Proventia is a

Proventia provides
unobtrusive, continuous surveillance, building on established
RealSecure technology.
It intercepts and
responds to security breaches and network abuse before
systems are compromised.
Part of an
integrated security management
platform, it provides effective intrusion
protection via diversified sensors and
control consoles.
Proventia easily adapts to any network environment,
with integrated network and host based intrusion
protection encompassing a variety of sensor options and a
scalable, centralised management console. In addition,
it enables enhanced security management without
significantly affecting the performance of critical networks
or systems. Proventia network sensors are completely
unobtrusive, monitoring network traffic by copying packets
off the wire. Proventia server sensors also minimise
their footprint by monitoring CPU and memory utilisation
with internal limiters.

As the intrusion protection market has matured, customers have
started to reject the original approach
of installing relatively complex software on to separately sourced
UNIX or Windows systems.
They want a sensor supplied as a ready-to-go appliance that can be
put in the rack with a minimum of effort, and the Proventia series of
appliances from IBM Internet Security Systems is just that.
The G Series is an in-line device that
provides intrusion
prevention, by automatically blocking malicious
attacks while the M Series is
an all-in-one
device that integrates the firewall and the intrusion prevention system.
All Proventia devices can be managed by SiteProtector in the same way
as existing RealSecure sensors.
